Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 10, 2026
PlugTalk is built by an indie developer with a strong respect for privacy. We collect the minimum amount of data needed to verify your license. No tracking, no analytics, no third-party advertising.
What we collect
When you activate PlugTalk on your Mac, we receive and store the following on our license server (Cloudflare Workers + KV, located in the EU/US):
- Your license key (you bought this — we issued it).
- A machine fingerprint — SHA-256 hash of your Mac's hardware UUID + a fixed salt. This is not reversible to identify you personally.
- Your app version and macOS version string (e.g. "macOS 26.4.1 arm64").
- The timestamp of your activation.
Your email address — sent to us at purchase time by our payment processor — is stored only for emailing you the license key and processing refund requests.
What we don't collect
- USB device data — names, vendor IDs, serial numbers, content. None of this leaves your Mac.
- Sound files you upload — stored locally only.
- Usage analytics, click events, telemetry, "how often you use the app".
- Crash reports — disabled by default, no collection.
- IP addresses beyond the brief moment needed to handle the activation HTTP request.
How we use it
- To verify your license when the app activates.
- To enforce the device limit (3 Macs per license) by counting unique machine hashes.
- To revoke licenses if requested as part of a refund.
- To respond to support emails you send us.
Third parties
We use the following sub-processors. Each handles a narrow slice of data and is listed here for transparency:
- Cloudflare Inc. — license activation API + edge hosting.
- Polar Software, Inc. — payment processor + invoice + tax handling. They handle your card details; we never see them.
- Resend — transactional email (sending you your license + refund confirmations).
Data retention
License + activation records are kept while the license is active. If you request deletion (refund, account closure), we delete activation rows within 7 days. Backup tapes and CDN logs are rotated within 30 days.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can email hello@thenightwatcher.online to:
- Get a copy of every record we hold about your license.
- Correct anything inaccurate.
- Delete your records (terminates your license; we'll process within 7 days).
EU/UK residents have the additional rights granted by GDPR/UK-GDPR, including data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority.
Cookies
This website does not use cookies, local storage tracking, or fingerprinting. The app itself stores its license + preferences locally in your Mac's Keychain and Application Support folder.
Changes
Material changes to this policy will be announced via a banner on the site. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
